Benton ESSLEY was born in Mercer County, Illinois, March 16th, 1862, and died in Guthrie, Oklahoma, January 1st, 1923, aged 60 years, nine months and fifteen days. In 1874 he came west with his parents and settled in Harvey county, Kansas. In 1884 he returned to Illinois and was married to Lenora Bertha REED, of New Boston, Illinois, and together they returned to Kansas. To this union four children were born, Let and Lela dying in infancy. Ethel died four years ago, and Lee B. now resides at Newton, Kansas. His wife preceded him about four years, leaving only one member of the family, who is the son at Newton. Beside these he leaves six grand children, one sister, Mrs. S. W. LARMER, of Cherokee, Oklahoma; one brother, Frank ESSLEY, of Portland, Oregon; a number of relatives and friends, many of whom reside in and near Attica. The body was brought to Attica (Kansas) and following a brief funeral service at the cemetery, conducted by Rev. U. B. Brubaker, was lain to rest in the family lot beside his wife and two children at 2:30 on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 3rd.
