How the ILGenWeb Started
In June, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Indiana Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more that one county, they could be located in the index. At the same time, some volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. Eventualy, this was expanded to all states and all counties across the US.

County Coordinator
My name is Joe Markovich. I am the coordinator for the ILGenWeb Mercer County Illinois website. Submittals of historical documents, photos, and just about anything genealogical related are always welcome for publication in this website. To volunteer to host an Illinois county, please contact the ILGenWeb state coordinator Dennis Partridge. To see more of my volunteer efforts on behalf of the UGenWeb, please visit the More Genealogy page in this web site.
Look Up and Research Request
I am unable to do your personal research. I do not live in Mercer County and I do not have access to additional records. If you do not see the information you are seeking in this site, I do not have it as everything I have is posted in this site

Mercer County Background
Mercer County is named for Hugh Mercer (1726-1777), a physician and general during the American Revolution who died from wounds suffered at the Battle of Princeton. In May 1812, Congress passed an act which set aside lands in Arkansas, Michigan, and Illinois as payment to volunteer soldiers in the War of 1812. Mercer County was part of this "Military Tract." Seven years after Illinois became a state, Mercer County was founded. It was formed from unorganized territory near Pike County on January 13, 1825.
Mercer is composed of the following townships:
